HON. OPPONG NKRUMAH DEMANDS ANSWERS OVER ALLEGED GOLDBOD LOSSES.

The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, is demanding greater transparency from the government over alleged financial losses linked to the operations of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

Speaking at an NPP press conference on September 1, 2026, the former Information Minister alleged that a review of reports from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Ministry of Finance points to about GH¢22 billion in total losses.

He said this figure differs significantly from the losses reported by the Bank of Ghana, creating what he described as a gap of roughly GH¢13 billion.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah further claimed that about GH¢5 billion represented funds invested in GoldBod by the Finance Ministry, while another GH¢7 billion was generated through the Bank of Ghana’s gold-selling operations.

He is therefore calling on the government to explain the discrepancies and provide Ghanaians with a clear account of how the figures were arrived at.

The controversy follows earlier concerns over losses associated with Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

The IMF had previously reported significant losses from the programme, while the Minority in Parliament has repeatedly called for parliamentary scrutiny of the arrangements between the Bank of Ghana and GoldBod.

Oppong Nkrumah has maintained that the matter is not merely political but concerns public funds and accountability, insisting that Ghanaians deserve the full truth about the financial position of GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana.
