GCBC OFFICIALLY INVITES PRESIDENT OF GHANA TO WEST AFRICA YOUTH DAYS – (ACCRA 2026)
The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC), led by its President and Local Organising Committee, paid a courtesy call on H.E. the President of the Republic of Ghana to officially invite him to the West Africa Youth Days (WAYD) Accra 2026, scheduled to take place from 7th to 11th September 2026 at Achimota School, Accra.
The high-level engagement formed part of ongoing preparations towards the historic gathering, which is expected to bring together over 4,000 Catholic youth, Church leaders, policymakers, and development partners from the fifteen member countries of the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa (RECOWA/CERAO).
During the meeting, the Bishops presented the vision and objectives of the West Africa Youth Days, highlighting its significance as a regional platform for youth formation, leadership development, peacebuilding, cultural exchange, and evangelisation.
The delegation emphasised that the event seeks to empower young people to become active contributors to peace, social cohesion, and sustainable development across West Africa.
The Bishops further extended a formal invitation to the President to serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the Opening Ceremony on 8th September 2026.
They noted that his presence would underscore the importance of youth development, national unity, and regional cooperation, while demonstrating Ghana’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace and leadership among young people.
The President expressed appreciation to the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for the invitation and commended the Catholic Church for its continued contribution to youth development, education, peacebuilding, and national development. He acknowledged the strategic importance of investing in young people and welcomed the opportunity for Ghana to host thousands of youth from across the West African sub-region.
