Let’s Use Social Media to Promote Government Policies and Development Projects — Enyan Abaasa Chief Urges Ghanaian Youth
The Paramount Chief of the Enyan Abaasa Traditional Area and Vice President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Okoamankra Kwame Akonu X, has called on Ghanaian youth to make productive use of social media by promoting government policies, development projects, and initiatives that contribute to national growth rather than engaging in activities that offer little benefit to society.
The Chief made the call during the celebration of the 2026 Enyan Abaasa Ahobaa Festival and the official launch of the 2026 Akwambo Festival, held at Enyan Abaasa in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District of the Central Region.
Addressing a large gathering of chiefs, opinion leaders, residents, youth groups, and invited guests, Okoamankra Kwame Akonu X emphasized that social media has become a powerful communication tool that can be used to educate people, create awareness about government interventions, and promote development within communities.
According to him, many young people spend valuable time on social media platforms engaging in unnecessary arguments and spreading negative content instead of using the platforms to support national development and showcase positive achievements.
The Paramount Chief further urged residents of Enyan Abaasa to remain united and work together for the progress of the community.
He noted that unity, peace, and mutual support are essential ingredients for development and called on community members to encourage and uplift one another whenever someone takes an initiative that benefits the town and the nation at large.
He stressed that jealousy, hatred, and division among community members often hinder development and therefore appealed to residents to support one another in times of need and celebrate each other’s successes.
In a related development, the Member of Parliament for the Kwesimintsim Constituency, Hon. Nicholas Fiifi Buckman Esq.,also appealed to Ghanaian youth to use social media responsibly and refrain from insulting elders and leaders on various online platforms.
Speaking at the event, the MP stated that discipline, respect, and humility remain important values that every young person must uphold to succeed in life. He encouraged the youth to emulate the positive qualities of elders and learn from their experiences.
Hon. Buckman expressed concern over the growing influence of social media on the younger generation, noting that excessive and irresponsible use of the platforms has contributed to some youth losing touch with Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and traditional values.
He therefore urged young people, especially those from Enyan Abaasa, to remain disciplined, respect traditional authorities and elders, and actively participate in preserving the customs and traditions of their communities.
The MP further encouraged the youth to use social media as a tool for education, entrepreneurship, networking, and community development rather than engaging in activities that could tarnish their reputation and future prospects.
The event formed part of activities marking the 2026 Ahobaa Festival and the launch of the upcoming Akwambo Festival, which seeks to promote cultural heritage, unity, and development within the Enyan Abaasa Traditional Area.
