Ghanaian Youths Don’t Need Slogans But Jobs – Oppong Nkrumah Tells Government
Accra, GH – The MP for Ofoase Ayeribi and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has urged government to treat youth unemployment as a national emergency.
Speaking on the worsening job crisis, Oppong Nkrumah said Ghanaian youth are no longer interested in political slogans. They want practical, well-structured programmes that deliver dignified and well-paid jobs.
“The situation is getting out of hand. What young people need now are feasible interventions, not slogans,” he stated.
Hon.Oppong Nkrumah proposed building a credible labour market information system to properly match skills with actual job demand. He also called for decoupling skills training from job creation so each area can get dedicated focus and resources.
In addition, he said all government job programmes must be anchored with clear accountability metrics that track the number of beneficiaries, employment retention rates, and overall job quality.
He argued that without accurate data and proper performance tracking, government job initiatives will continue to miss the mark.
Youth unemployment remains one of Ghana’s biggest socio-economic challenges, with thousands of graduates entering the job market yearly.
