Offinsoman Chief Warns at Green Ghana: “Tree is Life, Last Tree Dies, Last Person Dies”.
Nana Osei Bediako, Dwenedabihene of Offinsoman, has called for urgent and decisive action to protect Ghana’s forests, warning that human survival depends on preserving trees.
Representing Offinsoman at the latest Green Ghana event organized by the Forestry Commission, Nana Bediako delivered a powerful message to Ghanaians: “Tree is life. The last day the tree dies, the last person on earth dies.”
The traditional leader said deforestation and illegal logging are putting livelihoods, water sources, and future generations at risk in Offinsoman and across the country.
He urged authorities and citizens to enforce strict laws against illegal logging to stop chainsaw operators and timber smugglers, back community-led forest management so local people can protect and benefit from their forests, transition to sustainable agriculture to end land clearing for farming, and cut down daily consumption of forest-unfriendly products by choosing sustainable alternatives.
Nana Bediako commended the Forestry Commission’s Green Ghana initiative but stressed that planting trees must go hand in hand with protection and a change in behavior.
“Planting without protecting is like pouring water into a basket,” he said.
His statement strengthens traditional authority behind the national target of 10 million trees under Green Ghana 2026, as Ghana continues to confront forest loss and the effects of climate change.
