Fear and panic have gripped residents of Hiawa Nyamebekyere in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region following the discovery of a body near the Hiawa Cemetery.

According to information gathered, the body was first found at the Hiawa Catholic School about three weeks ago.

Residents say the body, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was found lying within the school premises under mysterious circumstances, causing fear among pupils, teachers and parents.

Shockingly, before the police could arrive at the scene to convey the body, an unknown person reportedly took the body away from the school premises to an unknown destination.

The strange disappearance of the body raised many questions and suspicion among community members, with many calling for investigations into the matter.

After three weeks of searching and anxiety, the body has now been found dumped near the Hiawa Cemetery.

Residents who spoke to this reporter said they discovered the decomposing body near the cemetery on Wednesday morning while going to their farms, and immediately informed the Assembly Member and the chiefs.

The Tufohene of Hiawa Nyamebekyere, Nana Esah, and elders have called on the Wassa Akropong Police to as a matter of urgency come to the community to investigate the mysterious death and the removal of the body from the school.

“We are living in fear. First, a body was found at our school, then someone took it away, and now it has appeared at the cemetery. We want the police to tell us what happened,” a worried resident said.

As at the time of filing this report, the police were yet to arrive at the scene, while residents are calling on authorities to ensure proper burial and to intensify security in the area.
