C-DAG Praises Govt Fuel Tax Relief, Urges Drivers to Keep Fares Stable
The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG) and allied transport unions have applauded the Government of Ghana for suspending some tax components on fuel, calling it a timely move to ease pressure on the transport sector.
The decision follows growing public concern over rising fuel prices and their effect on transport fares and cost of living.
At a press briefing in Accra on Monday, C-DAG President Paa Willie said the suspension shows government is responsive to drivers and the public.
“This intervention is timely and demonstrates government’s responsiveness to the concerns of drivers and the general public,” he stated.
Paa Willie assured that C-DAG will keep engaging government constructively to ensure fairness for both passengers and drivers.
“C-DAG remains committed to protecting the interests of drivers while prioritizing the safety and well-being of all road users,” he added.
The Association explained that high fuel prices raise operating and maintenance costs, which often push up passenger fares.
Suspending some fuel tax elements provides short-term relief to stabilize the sector.
C-DAG urged members to remain law-abiding and professional, and cautioned against fare hikes as discussions with government and stakeholders continue on long-term solutions for the transport industry.
