NPP’s Mavis Yeboah Slams Govt Over LGBTQ Bill U-Turn, Says “We’re Ready” for Political Pastors

Kumasi, Ghana – May 30, 2026,NPP Communications Team member Mavis Yeboah, popularly known as “Political Mavis”, has accused the current government of hypocrisy over the handling of the anti-LGBTQ Bill, daring them to face the NPP’s response.
In a strongly worded statement directed at NDC MP Hon. Samuel Nartey George, Yeboah questioned why the same administration that pressured former President Akufo-Addo to sign the bill at “all costs” is now making over 30 amendments to it.
“If there were no issues with the LGBTQ Bill during President Akufo-Addo’s administration, and the current Government, and the opposition wanted President Akufo-Addo to sign the Bill at all costs, why would this Government make over 30 amendments to the same Law they were pushing President Akufo-Addo to sign?” she asked.
Yeboah further claimed the government will deploy “Political Pastors to bark and insult us on Sunday for exposing their hypocrisy”, but added the NPP is unfazed: “We’re ready ”.
The statement comes amid renewed public debate over the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, which was passed by Parliament under Akufo-Addo but not signed into law. The current government has since indicated it will introduce amendments before assent.
Hon. Samuel Nartey George, one of the bill’s lead sponsors, is yet to respond to Yeboah’s comments.
