Robbery Gang Fires on Police, Loses Member in Failed Ejura–Nkoranza Highway Ambush.

The Ghana Police Service foiled a planned robbery on the Ejura–Nkoranza Highway on April 9, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation near Mimenaso No. 2 in the Ejura-Sekyedomase Municipality.

Police received intelligence that a six-member gang, allegedly led by Mahamadu Fuseini, alias “Shaini,” planned to ambush commuters along the stretch.

An operational team moved into nearby bush where the suspects were positioned. Mistaking the officers for potential victims, the suspects opened fire.

Police returned fire, fatally wounding one suspect. The remaining gang members, including the alleged leader, escaped into the bush.

Officers recovered a pump-action gun loaded with four live cartridges, two spent cartridges, and three keypad mobile phones at the scene.

Two additional live cartridges and a talisman were found on the deceased suspect.

The body has been deposited at the Atebubu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Police say efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
