Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye, has emphasized that the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries will be transparent, with no secret elections taking place.
Speaking at the signing of the Peace Pact by aspirants at the Alisa Hotel, Prof. Oquaye urged the five presidential aspirants to maintain peace and unity before, during, and after the election.
“We are not doing secret elections in any corner, everything is open,” Prof. Oquaye declared, acknowledging that one of the aspirants will be elected as the party’s flagbearer.
He recalled the words of “United we stand, divided we fall,” and appealed to the aspirants to prioritize the party’s interests.
“In the name of Dankwa Dombo, Busia, and the faithful departed, please do something honourable for the New Patriotic Party and our tradition,” he said. Prof.
Rev. Oquaye highlighted efforts to ensure a fair and transparent process, including the establishment of an internal advisory committee and a credible voter register.
He called on the aspirants to put the party first, saying, “Remember, the party comes first.”
The event aimed to promote unity and peaceful competition among the aspirants as they contest for the party’s flagbearership ahead of the 2024 elections.
