Suhum MP Questions Government Over Fake Dollars Investigation

The Member of Parliament for Suhum, Hon. Frank Aseidu Bekoe, has expressed disappointment with the government’s inability to provide details on the seized alleged fake dollars, cedi notes, and gold bars at Sapeiman in the Greater Accra Region.

Speaking in an interview, Hon. Bekoe questioned why the police cannot determine the authenticity of the seized cash, given that even ordinary individuals can identify fake currency.

Hon. Bekoe humorously noted that “even Abokyi standing at the roadside is able to determine the originality of dollars, how much more the police service and Bank of Ghana.”

His comments highlight the public’s expectation for law enforcement agencies to possess expertise in identifying counterfeit currency.

The Suhum MP’s frustration stems from the Interior Minister’s response to his parliamentary question, which indicated that the police are still unable to determine the authenticity of the seized cash several months after the seizure.

Hon. Bekoe’s reaction underscores the need for transparency and efficiency in investigations involving high-profile seizures.

The government is expected to provide further updates on the investigation, and the public is eagerly awaiting the outcome. The incident has raised questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in handling such cases and the potential implications for the country’s economy.
