Stakeholders Urged To Support Sekyere Kusi SHS To Admit More Students
SEKYERE KONTONKYI, Ashanti Region- Teachers and traditional leaders of Sekyere Kusi Senior High Technical School in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region have made a passionate appeal to government, NGOs, corporate institutions and individuals to support the school with critical infrastructure to enable it to admit more students.
The appeal was made during the commissioning of an ultra-modern toilet facility constructed for the school by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Speaking at the short commissioning ceremony, Nana Obrempong Nkrumah Agyei II, who represented the teaching staff, said the school has the teaching personnel and the academic potential to enroll more students from the Sekyere area and beyond, but inadequate infrastructure continues to limit admissions.
He noted that facilities such as classrooms, dormitories, toilet facilities and furniture remain inadequate, putting pressure on the existing ones and affecting effective teaching and learning.
“We are grateful for this timely intervention, but we still need more. We are therefore calling on all stakeholders in education, including the government, old students, philanthropists and corporate Ghana to come to the aid of Sekyere Kusi Senior High Technical School,” he said.
Commissioning the facility, Bishop Samuel Akwasi Boateng, Bishop for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said the gesture forms part of the Church’s corporate social responsibility and its commitment to community development and humanitarian service.
He explained that the Church believes in supporting education and improving sanitation and hygiene in schools, adding that the new facility will improve the health and comfort of both students and teachers.
Bishop Boateng assured the community of the Church’s continuous support for initiatives that uplift the wellbeing of the people.
On his part, Obuoahiakuma Osei Onin Pobi II, Chief of Sekyere Kontonkyi, expressed profound gratitude to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for coming to the aid of the school.
He described the facility as a major relief for the school and urged other churches, organizations and well-meaning individuals to emulate the example.
The Chief added that quality education requires collective effort and called for sustained investment in the school to make it a preferred choice for students in the district.
Teachers and students of the school expressed joy over the new facility and pledged to maintain it to serve its intended purpose for years.
