Mamanso Youth Clash: Two Sustain Serious Machete Injuries Over Mining Water Dispute

Two persons are battling for their lives after sustaining serious machete wounds in a violent clash between youth from Akyem Mamanso and Teichu in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday at the Mamanso roundabout, was reportedly triggered by a misunderstanding over water used for mining activities in the area.

According to an eyewitness account, the victims, who are believed to be from Teichu, were attacked by some youth from Mamanso following a heated argument over access to a water source used for small-scale mining operations.

“The victims were attacked right at the Mamanso roundabout by some Mamanso youth. It was very bloody,” the eyewitness told this portal.

The injured persons were quickly rushed to the New Abirem Government Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment. Hospital sources confirm their condition is serious but stable.

The clash has heightened tension between the two neighbouring communities, with residents fearing a possible reprisal attack.

Police in New Abirem have been informed and are expected to commence investigations into the incident. No arrest has been made at the time of filing this report.

Residents and opinion leaders in the area are calling for calm while urging the District Security Council (DISEC) and traditional authorities to intervene swiftly to prevent the situation from escalating.
