Former National BISU President, Samuel Laari Yalkwa, Declares Intention to Contest NDC Garu Constituency Executive Member Position

 Youth leader says he wants to be a “Beacon of Change” to help NDC secure victory in Garu in 2028

GARU, U/E -Former National President of the Bimoba Students Union [BISU], Mr. Samuel Laari Yalkwa, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Executive Member of the National Democratic Congress [NDC] in the Garu Constituency.

Mr. Yalkwa, popularly known as SLY, made the declaration in a statement addressed to comrades, delegates, friends and well-wishers, noting that his decision comes after “extensive consultations, thoughtful reflection, and careful consideration of the aspirations of our people and the future of our great party, especially in the Garu Constituency.”

In his statement, Mr. Yalkwa highlighted his rich experience in student and youth leadership as the foundation for his bid.

He served as National President of the Bimoba Students Union [BISU] from 2018 to 2021, and while at the University of Education, Winneba, he served as Chief Justice of the Association of Economics Students [AES] and Public Relations Officer of the Students Legal Society.

After his university education, he continued his leadership service as the Public Relations Officer of the National Service Personnel Association [NASPA] for the Bawku West District in the Upper East Region from 2021 to 2022.

He also served as Youth Member of Parliament for the Tempane Constituency under the Youth Module Parliament of the Youth Empowerment Consortium from 2021 to 2022.

According to him, these experiences have shaped his conviction that leadership must be anchored on service, responsibility and effective representation.

“Based on these experiences, I have developed a strong conviction that leadership must be guided by service, responsibility, and effective representation. I am committed to being accessible and responsive,” he stated.

Mr. Yalkwa said he is offering himself as a reliable, accessible and progressive voice to serve as a Beacon of Change at the constituency level.

He pledged to work collaboratively with comrades, delegates and party faithful to build a stronger NDC in Garu and to change the narrative for victory in the 2028 general elections.

“This is a collective journey and responsibility, and I humbly seek the support and partnership of all comrades, delegates, friends, and well-wishers as we work together for renewed commitment and positive change. The journey has begun,” he added.

The NDC Garu Constituency executive elections is expected to be keenly contested as the party repositions itself to reclaim and retain key seats in the Upper East Region ahead of 2028.
