WAEC Releases 2026 BECE Provisional Results for School Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.

The announcement was made in a press release dated 29th July 2026, bringing relief and excitement to thousands of candidates, parents, teachers, and schools across Ghana.

According to a statement from WAEC sighted by Teachers Resource Pack, the results have been sent to schools through the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directorates of Education. Candidates can also check their results online through the Council’s official results portal.

Over 620,000 Candidates Sat for the Examination

WAEC disclosed that 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools registered for the 2026 BECE. The total number comprised:

304,415 males

315,828 females

The examination was conducted at 2,237 examination centres across the country. WAEC also noted that 3,601 candidates were absent during the examination.

The Council highlighted its commitment to inclusive education by providing examination accommodations for candidates with special needs, including:

136 candidates with visual impairment

282 candidates with hearing assessment needs

510 candidates requiring other test accommodations

WAEC announced that following investigations into examination irregularities, the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved several sanctions.

The sanctions include:

Cancellation of subject results for 496 candidates.

Cancellation of entire results for 105 candidates.

Withholding of subject results for 119 candidates.

Withholding of entire results for 48 candidates.

Additionally, the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld for further scrutiny. WAEC stated that these results will either be released or cancelled after investigations are completed, with a final decision expected by 31st August 2026.

Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been advised to visit WAEC’s irregularity portal for information regarding their cases.

The portal provides details on the reasons for the sanctions and outlines the next steps for candidates whose results are under investigation.

The Council used the opportunity to remind candidates, teachers, and school authorities about the importance of maintaining honesty and integrity during examinations. WAEC reiterated that examination malpractice undermines the credibility of certificates and attracts severe sanctions.

The release of the 2026 BECE results marks an important milestone for candidates preparing to enter Senior High School.

While many students will celebrate their achievements, WAEC’s actions against examination malpractice serve as a strong reminder that integrity remains essential in Ghana’s educational system.

Candidates are encouraged to access their results through their schools or the official WAEC online platform and carefully follow all instructions provided by the Council. Those with withheld results should remain patient as investigations continue and final decisions are expected before the end of August 2026.
