Hon. Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah Appeals to the Minister for Roads and Highways to Resume Construction of the Afrancho–Akumadan Town Road

Hon. Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah Appeals to the Minister for Roads and Highways to Resume Construction of the Afrancho–Akumadan Town Road.

The Member of Parliament for Offinso North Constituency, Hon. Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, has made a passionate appeal to the Minister for Roads and Highways to as a matter of urgency resume construction works on the Afrancho–Akumadan town road.

According to the MP, the road which serves as a major economic corridor for the Offinso North District has deteriorated into a serious death trap, making movement of people, goods and services extremely difficult and dangerous.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Kyei Asamoah said the deplorable state of the stretch has become unbearable for his constituents, particularly farmers, traders, students and patients who ply the road daily.

He noted that Afrancho and Akumadan are key farming communities often described as the food basket of the Ashanti Region, producing large quantities of maize, tomatoes, plantain, cassava and other vegetables that feed Kumasi and beyond. However, the bad nature of the road is crippling economic activities.

“Mr. Speaker, the Afrancho–Akumadan town road has become a death trap. The contractor has left site for months, and the road is now full of deep potholes, mud and dust.

My people are suffering. Farmers cannot transport their produce to market, vehicles break down daily, and accidents are rampant,” he lamented.

Hon. Dr. Kyei Asamoah stressed that several appeals have been made to the relevant authorities but work is yet  resume, a situation that has left residents frustrated and disappointed.

He therefore called on the Minister for Roads and Highways to urgently intervene, re-mobilize the contractor to site and ensure the project is completed on schedule to alleviate the plight of the people.

The MP also cautioned that with the onset of the rains, the situation could worsen if urgent action is not taken, as many communities risk being cut off completely.

Residents of Offinso North, he added, are law-abiding and development-oriented and deserve better road infrastructure to boost productivity and improve livelihoods.

He expressed hope that the Minister would treat his appeal with the urgency it deserves and deliver the road for the benefit of the people.
