Suhum Okada Riders Accuse Police Inspector “Polo” of Extortion and Assault.
Suhum, Eastern Region – Commercial motorbike riders in Suhum are calling on police authorities to investigate a senior officer they accuse of extortion and assault.
The riders allege that the inspector, popularly known as “Polo” or “Aboboyaa”, routinely stops Okada operators in the middle of the road to demand money, irrespective of whether their documents are valid.
Tensions peaked recently when the officer attempted to arrest and handcuff a rider without stating any offense. The rider resisted, and the confrontation drew a crowd.
According to eyewitness reports, the inspector assaulted the rider until he fell unconscious. He was then handcuffed, placed in the bucket of a police pickup, and driven to an undisclosed location.
The Okada riders say such incidents have created fear among operators and are damaging public trust in the police. They are urging the Ghana Police Service and relevant authorities to probe the officer’s conduct to ensure justice and accountability.
The Suhum Police Command is yet to respond to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
