Berekum West MP Launches Climate Action Clubs in Schools for World Environment Day
Member of Parliament for Berekum West, Hon. Dickson Kyere-Duah, has announced the establishment of Climate Action Clubs in Senior High Schools across his constituency as part of activities marking World Environment Day 2026.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament today, Hon. Kyere-Duah said the initiative is aimed at nurturing a new generation of environmental stewards and instilling in young people the belief that protecting nature is not merely an environmental obligation, but a moral responsibility.
“The passion and commitment of these students offer real hope for a greener and more sustainable future,” he said.
The MP used the occasion to highlight methane reduction as one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to combat climate change.
He noted that methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, accounts for a significant share of global warming, and that cutting emissions from agriculture, energy, and waste management systems can slow temperature rise, improve air quality, protect ecosystems, and enhance agricultural productivity and energy security.
“As we commemorate World Environment Day 2026, I am calling on all stakeholders – government, Parliament, the private sector, civil society, and citizens – to work together with renewed determination to build a Ghana that is greener, more resilient, and environmentally sustainable for present and future generations,” Hon. Kyere-Duah stated.
