MP Launches Support Fund for Students and Traders in Kwabre East

In a move aimed at mitigating economic challenges and enhancing human capital development at the grassroots level, the Member of Parliament for Kwabre East Constituency, Hon. Onyina Acheampong Akwasi Gyamfi, has officially launched an Educational and Entrepreneurship Support Fund to benefit constituents.

The initiative, which is being financed through the MP’s share of the Common Fund, saw an initial disbursement of GH¢194,700 to a total of 74 beneficiaries made up of tertiary students and market women across the municipality.

The launch event took place at Mamponteng and attracted local authorities, community members, and beneficiaries.

Addressing the media, Hon. Gyamfi underscored the rationale behind the intervention, describing it as a deliberate effort to alleviate financial constraints confronting students and small-scale traders.

He observed that access to education and sustainable livelihoods remains a critical challenge for many households, and such targeted support mechanisms are essential in bridging the gap.

According to him, the fund, which was instituted in 2024, forms part of a broader constituency-focused strategy to promote inclusive development, empower the youth, and stimulate microeconomic activity within the local economy.

He further noted that investing in education and entrepreneurship constitutes a viable pathway toward reducing unemployment and fostering long-term socio-economic stability.

The legislator admonished beneficiaries to utilise the funds judiciously, stressing that the sustainability and potential expansion of the programme would largely depend on the impact it creates in the lives of recipients.

He expressed optimism that the intervention would not only ease immediate financial pressures but also contribute meaningfully to academic progression and business growth.

Hon. Gyamfi reiterated his commitment to championing policies and initiatives that directly respond to the needs of his constituents, adding that the support fund would be implemented on a continuous basis to reach more individuals in subsequent phases.

Also speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwabre East, Joseph Amankwah, called on residents to eschew partisan considerations and instead prioritise collective development.

He emphasised the importance of unity and collaboration between citizens and government authorities in accelerating infrastructural and socio-economic progress within the municipality.

The MCE further encouraged beneficiaries to see the support not merely as financial aid, but as an opportunity to improve their circumstances and contribute positively to the local economy.

He maintained that when such interventions are effectively utilised, they have the potential to create a ripple effect that benefits entire communities.

Some beneficiaries who spoke at the event expressed appreciation for the gesture, indicating that the support would significantly ease their financial burdens.

While students noted that the funds would help cater for academic-related expenses, the traders highlighted its relevance in expanding their businesses and improving their income levels.

The launch of the Educational and Entrepreneurship Support Fund adds to a growing list of constituency-level interventions aimed at addressing socio-economic challenges through targeted assistance.

Observers believe that if sustained and efficiently managed, such initiatives could play a pivotal role in strengthening local development and improving living standards in Kwabre East.
