Zongo Youth Coalition Raises Concerns Over McDan Jet Terminal Issue, Calls for Fair Treatment of Dr. Daniel McKorley.
The Coalition of Zongo Youth for Development has called for fairness, transparency, and due process in the ongoing discussions surrounding Ghanaian businessman Dr Daniel McKorley and the reported situation involving a private jet terminal linked to his business operations under the McDan Group.
The group says recent developments and public reports regarding the possible takeover and reassignment of the facility have generated growing concern among sections of the business community, particularly indigenous entrepreneurs who see the matter as one that could set a precedent for how private investments are treated in the country.
According to the Coalition, while they acknowledge the importance of regulatory oversight and state interest in strategic infrastructure, they believe that any action involving privately developed facilities must strictly follow due process, legal clarity, and fair administrative procedures.
They warned that uncertainty or perceptions of unfair treatment could have wider implications for investor confidence, especially among local businesses that continue to play a major role in job creation and economic development.
The group further stressed that Ghana’s private sector growth depends heavily on trust between investors and state institutions, adding that any breakdown in that trust could discourage further investments in key sectors such as aviation, logistics, and infrastructure development.
Speaking to the media in Kumasi, a representative of the Coalition, Sumaila Ali, who identified himself as a beneficiary of a McDan Group scholarship programme, expressed concern over what he described as a “disturbing development” surrounding the facility.
He stated that Dr. McKorley has over the years built a strong reputation as an investor who has contributed significantly to Ghana’s economy through job creation, youth empowerment initiatives, and support for underserved communities.
“Dr. McKorley and his company have consistently invested in Ghana. Many young people, especially from deprived communities, have benefited from his initiatives. It is important that such contributions are not overlooked in the handling of any dispute or administrative decision,” he said.
The Coalition emphasized that their appeal is not intended to interfere with regulatory or legal processes, but rather to ensure that fairness and transparency remain central in any decision-making process.
They called on relevant state authorities and stakeholders to handle the matter in a way that upholds the rule of law while also protecting the interests of indigenous investors who continue to support national development.
According to them, Ghana must maintain a balanced approach that encourages both accountability and investment protection, warning that a failure to do so could weaken confidence in the country’s business environment.
The group also noted that the issue, if not carefully managed, could have broader implications beyond the immediate parties involved. They argued that perceptions of unpredictability in business regulation could discourage emerging entrepreneurs, especially young people in communities that are already economically vulnerable.
They further urged dialogue, consultation, and adherence to established legal processes as the best way to resolve such matters, rather than actions that could be interpreted as abrupt or lacking transparency.
The Coalition of Zongo Youth for Development reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for fairness, accountability, and the protection of indigenous businesses.
They reiterated their call for all stakeholders involved in the McDan jet terminal matter to ensure that due process is followed and that the outcome strengthens, rather than weakens, confidence in Ghana’s investment climate.
