Ghana Drifting Away from Core Values, Warns Archbishop Kwofie

Ghana Drifting Away from Core Values, Warns Archbishop Kwofie.

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, has expressed concern over the gradual erosion of core Ghanaian values, warning that the consequences are already being felt in schools.

Addressing the 50th anniversary celebration of Bishop Bowers School, Archbishop Kwofie identified respect for elders, honesty, hard work, self-discipline, and concern for others as the values being abandoned.

He stressed that these values were foundational to Ghanaian society and education, deliberately nurtured over time through teaching, reinforcement, and community living.

The Archbishop linked the decline in values to challenges in the education system, noting that schools are paying the price.

He emphasized that Catholic education focuses on forming the whole person, including character, conscience, and responsibility to God and society.

Archbishop Kwofie called on parents, teachers, Church authorities, and students to recommit to upholding these values, warning that “knowledge without character does more harm than good.”
