Catholic Priest Warns Against Threats to Ghana’s Constitution

Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Adu Addai, a Ghanaian Catholic priest serving in the Columbus Diocese, USA, has expressed concern over attempts to undermine Ghana’s Constitution.

In an interview with Dominic Duut, Fr. Addai emphasized that Ghana’s democracy is built on restraint, sacrifice, and respect for the Constitution, not on personalities or revelations.

“Our democracy was not built on revelations or personalities; it was built on restraint, sacrifice, and a shared agreement that no one is above the Constitution,” Fr. Addai said.

He warned that allowing loyalty to a leader to supersede loyalty to the Republic could shake the foundation of Ghana’s peace.

Fr. Addai, a Lecturer in Social Ethics and Bioethics at St Gregory the Great Provincial Seminary, Parkoso, stressed that Ghana is not ready for a “spiritual overthrow” of the Constitution.

“We are a nation governed by law, not by private revelations,” he said, adding that suggesting divine instruction can suspend constitutional order invites chaos and instability.
