Offinso North Chiefs, Citizens Express Disappointment Over DCE’s 24-Hour Market Decision.
The chiefs, assembly members, and concerned citizens of Akumadan-Afrancho in the Offinso North District are expressing disappointment and frustration over the District Chief Executive’s (DCE) decision to build a 24-hour market in Nkenkansu instead of Akumadan-Afrancho.
Despite the chiefs offering 40 acres of land for the project, the DCE, Hon. Caesar Ofosu Acheampong, insists that the market must be built in Nkenkansu.
Speaking on behalf of the assembly members, Hon. Appiah Sarpong Rabby, the Assemblyman for Old Atwene Electoral Area, expressed dissatisfaction with the DCE’s decision, citing Akumadan’s status as the district capital, its high population, and existing infrastructure as reasons why the market should be located there.
The concerned citizens of Akumadan-Afrancho echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that their opposition is not driven by politics but a desire for development in the district.
They vowed not to allow the project to be relocated to Nkenkansu.
The Gyasehene of Akumadan, Nana Kweku Boateng, also expressed disappointment, stating that the 24-hour market should be built in Akumadan-Afrancho, the district capital. He called on the government to intervene in the matter.
The community is urging the DCE to reconsider his decision and prioritize the development of Akumadan-Afrancho.
