” Catholic Youths as Agents of Transformation in the Church” – Monsignor Matthew Adusei

” Catholic Youths as Agents of Transformation in the Church” – Monsignor Matthew Adusei.

The Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Konongo–Mampong, Very Reverend Monsignor Matthew Adusei, has called on all Catholic youths to rise and become true agents of transformation within the Church and in society.

Speaking in an interview with Okesieba Nana Kwaku Asare, Monsignor Adusei stressed that the youth form the future foundation of the Catholic Church, and therefore, must be equipped with strong faith and moral principles.

He noted that God has called every Christian to be an agent of His word — to spread the Gospel and bear witness to the truth of Christ, who is the founder and head of the Church.

Monsignor Adusei explained that young people have a unique influence on their peers and communities.

When they share the word of God with their friends, he said, the message often reaches hearts more easily than when it is preached by older or more experienced leaders.

“If a young person speaks to another young person about Christ, they are likely to listen,” he said.

However, he reminded the youth that “you cannot give what you do not have.”

He therefore encouraged all Catholic youths to take time to study and understand the Catholic faith — its teachings, values, and traditions — so that they can confidently and truthfully proclaim the Gospel to others.

Addressing issues affecting the moral and academic life of young people, Monsignor Adusei advised students to stay away from dishonest means during examinations.

He cautioned against the growing dependence on cheating, saying such acts only destroy one’s integrity and the true purpose of education.

Instead, he encouraged the youth to study hard, remain disciplined, and trust in their efforts, as success achieved through hard work brings lasting pride and satisfaction.

Touching on the problem of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, Monsignor Adusei strongly condemned the involvement of young Catholics in the act. He reminded the youth that the Catholic Church has repeatedly spoken against galamsey because of its devastating effects on the environment and human life.

He stated that engaging in such illegal activity is not only a crime against the nation but also a serious offense against the moral teachings of the Church.

“If you call yourself a Catholic and still take part in galamsey, then you are not living according to the doctrine of the Church,” he warned.

Monsignor Adusei made these remarks during the Diocesan Catholic Youth Congress held at Ejisuman Senior High School, where hundreds of young Catholics from across the Diocese of Konongo–Mampong gathered to celebrate, learn, and renew their commitment to the mission of the Church.
