Unemployment a Ticking Time Bomb – Ing. Kwabena Agyepong Cautions
Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has warned that Ghana’s rising unemployment crisis is a ticking time bomb that could erupt if urgent action is not taken. He said joblessness has left many young people frustrated, hopeless, and vulnerable, creating a dangerous national risk.
Speaking at the filing of his nomination forms, the former NPP General Secretary outlined pressing challenges dragging the country backwards: poor sanitation, chaotic city planning, persistent land conflicts, and illegal mining (galamsey), which he described as an existential threat to national security.
“My heart continues to bleed over the trajectory of our beloved country,” he told supporters, stressing that the nation’s leadership must confront these problems head-on.
On galamsey, Agyepong was emphatic: “The continued neglect of the interests and voices of those most impacted by illegal mining is an existential threat to our national security.”
He argued that the despair of ordinary citizens is tied directly to failed leadership, with unemployment standing out as the gravest danger. The lack of sustainable jobs, he said, has demoralised the youth, fuelling apathy and resentment. Poor planning in the cities has worsened slum growth, while unresolved land disputes clog the courts and stifle development.
“We must put the nation on a war footing, rolling up our sleeves to restore hard work, meritocracy, and professionalism back into our society,” he declared.
Kwabena Agyepong called for a New Dawn that restores dignity, justice, and opportunity—positioning himself as the leader prepared to act decisively where others have failed.
