Abofour Market Women Cry Out for Relief: “Enough is Enough!
The market women of Abofour Thursday market have taken to the streets, pleading with authorities to come to their aid, citing unbearable suffering and neglect. According to the market women, the lack of basic amenities and infrastructure has made their trading activities a daily struggle.
“We are suffering too much,” one of the market women lamented. “Imagine when it’s raining, it rains on us. Dry seasons too, dust welcomes us from the doors of our vehicles. Even toilet facilities, we don’t have. We are lacking improvement and social amenities.”
The market women are demanding that the authorities either provide a 24-hour economy market in Abofour or offer a proper settlement in the market. “If we won’t get the 24-hour economy market in the Abofour market, then the leadership and authorities should give us a proper settlement in the market,” they insisted.
The market women expressed frustration with the lack of action from the authorities, particularly the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). “When there was an accident scene in Abofour market entrance, he came to promise us, but till date, there’s nothing that shows it’s in their minds to support the market. Even a stone to hit birds is enough. Enough is enough! We are tired of promises and failures.”
In a bold statement, the market women warned that if their demands are not met, they will refuse to pay taxes to any individual or authority in Abofour. “We will not read my lips. We will not pay any taxes to any individual here in Abofour market,” they declared.
