2025 World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month duelly Launched 

The Service has launched the 2025 World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month, aiming to raise awareness and visibility around breastfeeding, as public acceptance is declining.

This year’s theme is “Prioritize Breastfeeding, Create Sustainable Support Systems,” which emphasizes the need for trained health workers, supportive policies, and community involvement.

In an address on behalf of the Director-General, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Dr. Kennedy Brightson, the Director of the Family Health Division, noted that the Service has implemented initiatives such as the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative to support breastfeeding.

However, challenges persist, including a lack of exclusive breastfeeding among over 40% of infants.

The Director revealed that the Service had plans to work with organizations to establish breastfeeding spaces in corporate settings and advocate for the creation of public breastfeeding booths.

The Service calls for communities to support breastfeeding mothers, and a strong condemnation of interactions between health staff and representatives of Baby formula companies, urging protection against such influences.
