Bangladesh Air Force Jet Crashes into School, 20 Dead
A devastating crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training jet in Dhaka’s Uttara area has claimed at least 20 lives, including seven children, and injured 104 others.
The incident occurred on Monday when the Chinese-made F-7 BGI jet encountered a mechanical failure shortly after takeoff.
The pilot, Flight Lieutenant Md Towkir Islam, attempted to steer the aircraft away from the populated area but was unable to avoid disaster. He later succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.
The crash site is near Milestone School and College, where around 1,000 students were on campus at the time of the incident.
Rescue efforts continued late into the night as authorities worked to identify victims and search the wreckage. Officials confirmed that victims were taken to four separate hospitals, and an investigation into the aircraft’s technical history is ongoing.
The cause of the crash is suspected to be mechanical failure, and authorities are combing the crash site for potential survivors.
