Ghana’s Offinso North MP Sounds Alarm on Rising Drug Abuse
Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, Member of Parliament for Offinso North, has raised concerns about the growing problem of drug abuse in Ghana, particularly among the youth.
Speaking in Parliament, Dr. Asamoah highlighted the increasing trend of polysubstance abuse, where individuals take multiple drugs at once, and warned of the emergence of methamphetamine labs in cities like Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi.

Dr. Asamoah noted that the issue of polysubstance abuse is becoming more complex due to the simultaneous use of multiple drugs.

He also emphasized that the emergence of methamphetamine labs poses a serious national threat. Additionally, he highlighted the growing trend of tramadol misuse among the youth.
Dr. Asamoah urged the government and security services to act swiftly to prevent Ghana from facing a drug crisis similar to those seen in other countries.
He emphasized the critical role of young people in Ghana’s development and called for stronger support through education, employment, and rehabilitation.
“Saving our youth from drug abuse requires collective responsibility and strong willpower,” he said.

As a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah has been serving as the MP for Offinso North since winning the parliamentary primaries in January 2024.
He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Denver and a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
