Western Central Regional Police Crackdown on Illegal Mining Yields 17 Arrests
The Western Central Regional Police Command has intensified its anti-galamsey operations, arresting 17 individuals suspected of engaging in illegal mining activities in the region. The arrests were made during two coordinated operations on June 24, 2025, at Adamaso and Wassa Mamieso.
Adamaso Operation
Twelve suspects were apprehended at Adamaso, including:
– Abraham Antwi, 26
– Jeremiah Adusei, 37
– Eric Martey, 41
– George Amoah, 45
– Misasa Jonas, 25
– Larry Ndaaso, 42
– Ezekiel Dome, 22
– Bismark Adu, 19
– Alex Sabla, 34
– Godfrey Acheampong, 29
– Ebenezer Mensah, 21
– Emmanuel Appiah, 25
The operation also yielded the seizure of five pumping machines.
Wassa Mamieso Operation
In a separate intelligence-led operation near the Mamie River in Wassa Mamieso, five suspects were arrested:
– Junior Simon, 21
– Stephen Tetteh, 30
– Samuel Kwarteng, 19
– Matthew Wofatey, 20
– Seidu Ayigbe, 30
A “Sunny Excavator 215 Control Board” was seized during the operation.
All 17 suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations while the retrieved exhibits are being retained. This crackdown is part of the police’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining and protect the environment.
