Police Intervention Halts NASPA Elections in Ashanti Region

In a dramatic turn of events, officers from the Ashanti Regional Police Command stormed the offices of the Civil and Local Government Service Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) on Monday morning, disrupting the elections of the National Service Persons Association (NASPA) regional executives.

The police, armed and numbering around 15, claimed they had received instructions to halt the proceedings, citing concerns that the elections were being held without the necessary sanction from the National Executives in Accra.

According to Goddea Asiedu Abourden, the outgoing Ashanti regional organizing secretary, the police asserted that the gathering was illegal and had not been approved by the national leadership.

Despite the initial intention to proceed, the aspirants and delegates ultimately decided to call off the elections.

A new date, June 5th, has been set for the elections and swearing-in ceremonies to take place.

The sudden interruption left many delegates feeling frustrated and disappointed, having invested significant time and personal resources in the electoral process.

Some delegates, who spoke to our noblenews.net, expressed their discontent, revealing that the elections had been rescheduled from the previous Friday due to protests from some members, allowing aspirants to campaign and lobby for support.

The incident has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the police intervention and the implications for the NASPA elections in the Ashanti region.
