Ghana Must Act Now to Protect Its Image From International Drug Trafficking Scandals

Accra, Ghana – September 21, 2026

A growing wave of international drug busts linked to Ghana has sparked national outrage and raised serious questions about the integrity of operations at our major exit points.

Concerned citizens and civil society groups are calling on government to take immediate and decisive action to protect the country’s hard-earned global reputation.

The Ministry of Interior and National Security must as a matter of urgency investigate all officers stationed at our major exit points.

Any Customs, Immigration, or port official caught helping drug traffickers must be arrested and prosecuted publicly to serve as a warning to others. Ghana cannot allow a few greedy individuals to destroy the integrity of the entire nation.

There is also a pressing need to reduce human handling at our borders. The government must invest heavily in automated AI scanning systems, hidden cameras, and biometric checks at all entry and exit points so that no one can bypass the system through a bribe.

Technology does not take bribes, and it is time we let technology secure our borders.

Furthermore, if these international drug busts are part of a targeted campaign to give Ghana a bad name, our Ministry of Foreign Affairs must confront these foreign countries.

We should demand that they share intelligence and work with us, instead of just blaming Ghana on the world stage. Ghana deserves mutual respect, not public embarrassment.

Ghana is a nation built on freedom, justice, and integrity. We refuse to let our hard-earned global respect be destroyed by local negligence or outside malice. The time for authorities to act is right now.
