Declare State of Emergency Over Galamsey Now – GRPS Tells Mahama
The Generational Rights Protection Society (GRPS) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to declare a state of emergency to tackle the escalating crisis of illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey, in the country.

The group expressed frustration over the government’s perceived inaction in addressing the issue, despite highlighting the dangers of illegal mining. Okatakyie Mensah Afrifa, Convener of GRPS, emphasized that galamsey is a national issue that transcends political affiliations.
The GRPS is calling on all Ghanaians to join hands in demanding action from the government. Kwame Appiah Kubi, Convener of the group, highlighted the devastating impact of illegal mining on the environment, communities, and society as a whole.
