Queen Mother in Tears Over Dilapidated Afrancho Market, Accuses Offinso North DCE of Neglect

Akumadan-Afrancho, June 30, 2026

An emotional appeal came from the Akumadan Afrancho Obaapanin, Nana Adwoa Ampomah II, on Monday as she openly wept over the deteriorating state of the Afrancho Market.

She placed direct blame on the Offinso North District Chief Executive, Hon. Caesar Ofosu Acheampong, accusing him of mismanagement and neglect.

Fighting back tears while speaking to journalists, Nana Adwoa Ampomah II alleged that Hon. Acheampong has been collecting money from market women  each store paid an amount of three thousand chopable ghana cedis 3,000 table-top traders on a consistent basistraders paid 200 two hundred Ghana cedis.

She further claimed that existing market structures have been sold off under his administration.

“The market has collapsed under his watch. There is absolutely no proper management,” she said. “We expected that at the very least, funds collected would be used to gravel the grounds to reduce the mud, but not even that has been done.”

The Queen Mother painted a grim picture of daily life for traders at the market. She cited the absence of lighting, which leaves traders vulnerable after dark, and the complete lack of water supply. The sanitation situation, she stressed, is dire.

“We women are suffering. Because there are no toilet facilities, we are forced to hide behind bushes and containers. The entire market is slowly turning into an open place of convenience,” Nana Adwoa Ampomah II lamented.

In her address, she made a passionate appeal to the Offinsomanhene, Nana Dwamena Akenten II, and the Offinsoman Traditional Council to intervene.

She urged the traditional leadership to step in and rescue the market women from what she described as worsening hardship.

All efforts to get a response from Hon. Caesar Ofosu Acheampong proved unsuccessful before press time.
