Worsening Traffic Situation At Abofour Market Poses Danger To Lives

The traffic situation at Abofour Market in the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti Region is worsening by the day, posing serious danger to traders, motorists and pedestrians.

The market, which sits directly along the busy Kumasi-Techiman highway, has become a major bottleneck, especially on market days.

Attempts to relocate the market from the roadside have so far been unsuccessful.

According to residents, the market is poorly managed, with no demarcated parking space for vehicles. As a result, drivers park indiscriminately along the highway, causing heavy traffic congestion and increasing the risk of accidents.

Traders have also extended their activities onto portions of the road, further narrowing the highway and making movement difficult for both vehicles and pedestrians.

Road users and residents are therefore calling on the Offinso South Municipal Assembly, the Department of Urban Roads and other stakeholders to urgently intervene to ensure proper management of the market and to avert a possible tragedy.

They are appealing for the creation of a designated parking area, enforcement of traffic regulations and the speedy implementation of the market relocation plan.
