Organizers of the School Mental Health, Drug/Substance Abuse, Teenage Pregnancy and Abortion Awareness Campaign have announced a temporary suspension of the campaign following the ongoing nationwide strike by teacher unions.

In an important update issued today, the campaign team said the decision to put the initiative on hold became necessary due to the halt in academic activities across pre-tertiary schools.

The campaign, which seeks to educate and empower young people to make informed and healthy life choices, has in recent months been rolled out in several schools, engaging students, teachers and parents on critical issues affecting adolescent health and well-being.

“Although the campaign has been put on hold for now, our mission remains unchanged to educate, empower and inspire young people to make informed and healthy choices,” the statement read.

The organizers expressed gratitude to all schools, teachers, students, parents and stakeholders who have supported the campaign so far, noting that their collaboration has been instrumental in driving awareness and impact.

They assured the public that the campaign will resume with renewed energy and commitment as soon as schools reopen and normal academic activities return.

“Together, we can raise awareness, inspire hope and build a healthier generation,” the team added.

The initiative operates under the slogans “Mental Health, Total Health”and “Mental Health First Aid for All,” advocating for accessible mental health support and responsible adolescent health choices.

The nationwide strike by GNAT, NAGRAT and CCT-GH, which began on September 25 over unresolved labour concerns including collective agreement and allowances, continues to affect teaching and learning across the country, with many intervention programmes like this campaign also being impacted.
