Offinso South Education Director Decries Rising Child Labour, Calls For Parental Responsibility

By Dominic Duut – Offinso

The Municipal Education Director of Offinso South, Mrs. Gladys Kwakye, has raised serious concerns over the increasing rate of child labour in the municipality, warning that the trend poses a major threat to quality education and the future of children.

Speaking at a commissioning ceremony at Abofour in the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, Mrs. Kwakye urged parents and guardians to prioritize their children’s education and protect them from all forms of exploitation and abuse.

She cautioned parents against engaging their children in commercial and farming activities at the expense of their schooling, stressing that no amount of short-term economic gain can compensate for a child’s lost education.

According to her, education remains the surest and most sustainable path to a successful future, and parents must make the necessary sacrifices to keep their children in school.

Mrs. Kwakye further advised parents to closely monitor the daily movements and activities of their wards to prevent them from falling into bad company and indulging in drug abuse and other social vices that could jeopardize their health and prospects.

She emphasized that children need constant guidance, supervision and a supportive home environment to remain focused on their studies and grow into responsible adults.

The Education Director called on traditional leaders, teachers, Assembly members and community members to collaborate with the Education Directorate in the fight against child labour and ensure that every child in the municipality has access to quality and uninterrupted education.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the Offinso South Municipal Education Directorate to work with all stakeholders to curb the menace and improve academic performance in the municipality.
