Former General Secretary John Boadu has been elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.

The 56-year-old veteran political strategist staged a comeback, securing *2,888 votes* in a fiercely contested election held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

He beat former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko who polled 2,408 votes, former National Chairman Paul Afoko who had 790 votes, and Sammy Crabbe who got 41 votes.

The victory was boosted by a last-minute alliance after Sammy Crabbe withdrew from the race moments before voting and declared support for Boadu, urging his supporters to back him.

Over 7,000 delegates participated in the conference to elect nine new national executives to steer the party into the 2028 general elections.

John Boadu, who served as General Secretary from 2018 to 2022 and has over 30 years of service in the NPP from polling station to national level, is now expected to lead the party’s reorganisation and rebuilding efforts after its 2024 defeat.
