COCOA FARMERS ASSOCIATION WELCOMES INCREASE IN COCOA PRICE

The Ghana National Cocoa Farmers Association has welcomed the GH¢63 increase in the producer price of a bag of cocoa.

Speaking with the press , President of the Ghana National Cocoa Farmers Association, Stevenson Anane Boateng, said the new price represents a 71.18 percent increase, slightly above the 70 percent increase that was expected.

He said the association has therefore accepted the new price, describing it as being in line with developments in the international cocoa market.

Reacting to concerns raised by the Young Cocoa Farmers, who have said the new price does not meet their expectations, Mr. Anane Boateng questioned the group’s recognition, suggesting that it could be politically affiliated.

According to him, the government consulted recognized cocoa farmers associations before announcing the new producer price.

He therefore urged the Young Cocoa Farmers and other cocoa farmers groups to come together and join the Ghana National Cocoa Farmers Association to promote a common vision and objective for cocoa farmers.
