Ashanti NDC Chairman Augustus Nana Akwasi Begins Third-Term Bid; Targets 10 Seats In 2028

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Augustus Andrew Nana Akwasi, has officially picked nomination forms to contest for a third term in office.

The two-term chairman, who is campaigning under the slogan “Adwumapa Ntoaso – Retain Nana Akwasi”, says his campaign will be decent and issue-based, focused on unity and strengthening party structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Nana Akwasi traced his political journey from Branch Chairman at Achiase, through Ejisu Constituency Executive, to Parliamentary Candidate for Ejisu and Regional Vice Chairman before becoming Regional Chairman.

He says his experience in party administration has translated into tangible gains for the NDC in the Ashanti Region, which is traditionally seen as the stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, under his leadership, the NDC’s parliamentary representation in the region increased from three to four seats and then to seven seats, with the party also recording over 34% of the presidential votes in the region in the 2024 elections.

“I have gained the experience to serve and lead. I have done it before and I will even do more. I come with experience,” he said in his campaign message, arguing that the NDC does not need to take unnecessary risks with new leadership at this crucial time.

Looking ahead, Nana Akwasi has set a bold target of winning at least 10 parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region in the 2028 elections.

“2028 is the next target and I’m fully committed to taking the NDC to at least 10 parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region,” he assured.

He is expected to face stiff competition from the Ashanti Regional Organiser and Presidential Staffer, Isham Alhassan Bonsu, who has also declared his intention to contest for the chairmanship position.
