Water Supply Disruption: Barekese Treatment Plant to Shut Down on July 22
The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced a temporary shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant in the Ashanti Region. The shutdown is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The shutdown is necessary to allow the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to carry out essential maintenance works on nearby power lines.
The power outage will affect water supply operations at the plant.
GWCL has assured affected residents that water supply operations will resume immediately after power is restored. T
he company urges the public to store enough water in advance to minimize inconveniences.
Residents in areas served by the Barekese Water Treatment Plant are advised to plan accordingly and store water for the duration of the shutdown.
Water supply is expected to return to normal once the maintenance work is completed and power is restored.
