By Dominic Duut – Offinso, Ashanti Region

The Member of Parliament for Offinso South, Dr. Isaac Yaw Opoku, has commissioned a series of development projects across three communities in the constituency, aimed at improving education, sanitation and economic activities.

The projects include a three-unit classroom block with a staff common room and headteacher’s office at Abofour New Life Basic School, two 20-seater modern water closet toilet facilities at Abofour and Offinso New Town, and a new market facility at Namong.

The commissioning ceremonies were held separately in the beneficiary communities and attracted traditional leaders, opinion leaders, school authorities, students, market women and a large number of residents.

Speaking at the events, Dr. Isaac Yaw Opoku said the projects form part of his broader development agenda for Offinso South, with a focus on education, health, sanitation and local economic empowerment.

According to him, the classroom block at Abofour New Life Basic School will help address infrastructure challenges facing the school and provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning. He noted that quality education requires quality infrastructure.

On sanitation, the MP said the two modern toilet facilities at Abofour and Offinso New Town are intended to improve hygiene, end open defecation and promote healthy living in the communities.

He added that the market at Namong will provide a decent trading space for market women and farmers, boost local commerce and improve livelihoods.

Dr. Opoku urged residents, school authorities and traders to adopt a strong maintenance culture to ensure the sustainability of the facilities for future generations.

He reiterated his commitment to continue to lobby and initiate more development projects to address the needs of constituents, and pledged to do even more should the New Patriotic Party (NPP) return to power after the 2028 general elections.

On their part, traditional leaders in the beneficiary communities commended the MP for his continuous support and described the projects as timely interventions that address long-standing challenges.

The headteacher of Abofour New Life Basic School said the new classroom block will ease congestion and improve academic performance, while market women at Namong described the new market as a major relief that will enhance their trading activities.

They, however, appealed to the MP and the Offinso South Municipal Assembly to provide additional support in the areas of roads, health and educational materials to further improve living conditions in the area.
