World Cup Visa Scandal Must Not End With One Dismissal – Minority Demands Sacking Of Sports Minister And GTA CEO
The Minority in Parliament has insisted that the World Cup visa scandal must not end with the dismissal of one official, following President John Dramani Mahama’s removal of the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
Addressing the press at Parliament House, the Ranking Member on the Youth and Sports Committee, Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, said while the Minority acknowledges the President’s decision, it does not address all the issues arising from the scandal.
“This cannot end with one dismissal. The President has removed [the NSA DG], we acknowledge that decision but the public should not be made to believe that the removal of one official automatically answers every question arising from the document,” he stated.
The Minority is therefore demanding the immediate dismissal of the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).
“We therefore call for the immediate dismissal of Honourable Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation and the immediate dismissal of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority,” Hon. Assafuah declared.
He argued that their continued stay in office could undermine public confidence in any investigation.
“Their continued stay in office in the face of the questions surrounding the roles of their respective institutions cannot be allowed to undermine public confidence in the investigation,” he stressed.
The Minority is calling for a full, independent and transparent investigation into the entire visa facilitation arrangement, including the roles of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, GTA, NSA, Tribe Culture Fest and all individuals linked to the collection of monies and preparation of lists.
