The Nsuta Circuit Court in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region has remanded a 23-year-old tricycle rider into police custody for allegedly causing the death of a 75-year-old woman.
The accused, Francis Bannor, was remanded by the presiding judge, His Lordship Simon Nketiah Gagah, on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Prosecution led by Chief Inspector C.K. Gyesi told the court that on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at about 10:35 p.m., the accused was riding a tricycle, popularly known as ‘Pragya’, with registration number M-25-AF 1410, from Kumawu Nkwanta towards Kumawu with three passengers on board.
While descending from the Chief’s Palace, he knocked down one Agnes Anim, aged 75.
The victim was rushed to the Kumawu Government Hospital for treatment but died while receiving treatment. Her body has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The court was further told that the accident tricycle has been impounded at the Kumawu Police Station and is yet to be examined.
The accused is yet to produce his rider’s licence, insurance certificate and roadworthiness certificate for inspection, while one of the passengers involved in the accident is still on admission.
The prosecution indicated that investigations are still ongoing.
The court stated that since the incident involved a fatality, the plea of the accused would not be taken at this stage, and the docket is yet to be forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Office for advice.
The case has been adjourned to October 14, 2026, pending advice from the Attorney-General.
