Accountability For Gov’t Project Funds Is A Necessity – Central Regional Minister
By Dominic Duut
The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, has stressed the need for accountability in the use of government funds allocated for development projects.
He said government officials must be willing to account to the people for projects being executed with public funds, adding that effective administration goes beyond sitting in offices.
The Minister made the remarks during a tour of projects in the Cape Coast Metropolis with the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. George Justice Arthur, and the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku.
The tour included the commissioning of a three-unit classroom block at Bessakrom.
According to Hon. Eduamoah, administration should involve going into communities to interact with residents and enable them to appreciate government programmes and projects.
He noted that the people of Bessakrom had requested a Junior High School block to provide an enabling environment to educate and nurture children to become responsible and productive members of the community.
Meanwhile, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly has commenced construction of three-unit and six-unit classroom blocks at the Christ Church Anglican Basic School at Adisadel, with the MCE cutting the sod for the projects.
Hon. Arthur said the projects will include ancillary facilities such as headteacher’s offices, staff common rooms, storerooms and eight washrooms for each block, at an estimated cost of about GH¢2.71 million.
At Bessakrom, Dr. Nyarku thanked constituents for their support for development projects and urged teachers and pupils to take education seriously, stressing that the success of the school would contribute to the community’s future progress.
