74-Year-Old Trader Remanded Over Cutlass Attack
The Nsuta Circuit Court in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region has remanded a 74-year-old trader, Kofi Antwi Moosi, into police custody for two weeks over an alleged case of causing harm.
The order was issued by the presiding judge, His Lordship Simon Nketiah Gagah, on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector C.K. Gyesi, the complainant, Addae Richard, 42, a driver and native of Dadease, was walking along the main street of Dadease with some friends on September 29, 2026, when they passed by the accused’s shop.
The prosecution told the court that the complainant and his friends allegedly heard the accused making threatening remarks while wielding a sharp cutlass.
A few minutes later, the accused allegedly rushed towards the complainant and swung the cutlass at him several times, eventually slashing him on his right palm.
The matter was subsequently reported at the Kumawu Police Station, leading to the arrest of the accused.
During interrogation, the prosecution said, the accused admitted committing the offence in his caution statement and allegedly told police that he would have caused the complainant further harm if he had the opportunity.
The prosecution further informed the court that the complainant had been sent to hospital for medical attention and that the facts of the case would have to be amended.
In view of the circumstances, the court did not take the plea of the accused and instead remanded him into police custody.
The case has been adjourned to October 14, 2026, for the plea of the accused to be taken.
