Wa and Tumu Hit by Heavy Downpour, Flooding and Infrastructure Damage Reported
A severe downpour that started around 9 pm on Sunday, July 27, 2025, and lasted until 2 pm on Monday has caused significant flooding and infrastructure damage in Wa Metropolis and Sissala East Municipality in the Upper West Region.
Several areas in Wa, including Kpaguri, Kambali, Mangu, and Duori, experienced flooding, with some homes inundated. A bridge linking Zingu community to Wa Township was washed away, isolating residents.
In Sissala East Municipality, Kassana and other major farming communities were cut off from Tumu after heavy rains, leaving thousands of farmers and community members stranded.
The Mayor of Wa, Alhaj Nurah Danwana, visited flooded areas, sympathized with affected families, and assured of plans to solve the problem.
The MCE for Sissala East, Hon. Adamu Yakubu, assessed the situation with media and promised swift measures to fix the Kassana Road and bridge.
Assembly members and National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) officials also assessed the situation to find lasting solutions to the problem.
