Two Arrested Over Ablekuma North Rerun Violence
The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the violent incidents that marred the parliamentary re-run in the Ablekuma North Constituency on July 11, 2025.
The suspects, identified as Musah Muntari, a 46-year-old Station Manager at STC, and Ali Saeed, also known as Mboma, a 43-year-old businessman, are currently assisting the police with investigations.
The Ablekuma North re-run was held to determine the area’s representative in Parliament, but it was marred by disturbances at several polling centers.
The violence prompted public concern and calls for accountability, with reports of assaults on journalists, including GHOne TV’s Agyekum Banahene, and politicians like former Fisheries Minister Hawa Koomson and NPP Deputy National Organizer Chris Asamoah.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to bringing all perpetrators of election-related violence, intimidation, or misconduct to justice.
Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, urged the public to continue cooperating with the Police and share credible information via emergency lines 18555 or 191.
The parliamentary re-run was necessitated by disputes arising from the December 2024 election. Despite the violence, the NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn emerged victorious, consolidating the party’s parliamentary majority.
