Two Armed Robbers Killed in Shootout with Police on Atebubu-Yeji Highway
A shootout between police and armed robbers on the Atebubu-Yeji highway in Ghana’s Bono East Region has resulted in the deaths of two suspected robbers. The incident occurred on Sunday, July 6, 2025, around 8:00 p.m., near the Kobre community.
According to reports, the armed robbers had ambushed and attacked a group of traders returning from the Yeji market to Atebubu, fatally shooting one person during the robbery.
A police highway patrol team responded to the scene, leading to a gun battle with the suspects.
Two of the robbers were killed in the exchange, while one managed to flee with a gunshot wound.
The police have launched a manhunt for the fugitive suspect. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident
One of the robbery victims, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the body of Mohammed Suraji Raweisu, 38 years old, had been buried according to the Islamic faith.
The victim recounted the harrowing experience, describing how the armed robbers fired gunshots, robbed passengers of their valuables, and fled the scene.
