Tragedy in Kasoa: 12-Year-Old Boy Swept Away by Floodwaters

A devastating incident occurred in Kasoa American Town, Awutu Senya East Municipality, Central Region, where a 12-year-old boy identified as David went missing after being swept away by the Okludu River during a heavy downpour on Tuesday.

David was trying to pick up his younger siblings from school after the rain had subsided when the incident happened. His slippers slipped into a nearby gutter, and while attempting to retrieve them, he fell into the fast-flowing river.

The strong currents carried him away before anyone could intervene.

Despite extensive search operations conducted by community members and local authorities late into the night, no trace of David has been found.

The Assemblyman for the American Town Electoral Area, Shaddrack Boakye Yiadom, confirmed the search efforts were unsuccessful.

The Ewe Chief of American Town, Togbui Amamasor, described the scene as heartbreaking, recounting how residents watched helplessly as the young boy was swept away.

Local traditional authorities are expected to perform purification and spiritual rites to aid in finding David’s body.

Residents and authorities have been urged to exercise extreme caution around open drains and flood-prone areas as the rainy season intensifies across the region.
